The
SKINGLEY family moved to Paglesham some time before 1770 and their first
records at Paglesham include three marriages of Matthew, Henry and William in
1770, 1771 and 1774 respectively. William
was a widower when he married and he was probably the father of both Matthew
and Henry by his first wife. Their
baptisms however have not been found, and the origin of the family remains
unknown. Matthew
married Jane BROWN and baptised eight children at Paglesham. Their eldest son William married Susan
MORTLOCK at Paglesham in 1793 and baptised four children there. Their eldest daughter, Elizabeth, married
Matthew WENDON and moved to his home at Barling. The
occupations of the Paglesham family are not known. They were probably agricultural labourers but a connection with
the sea is possible at Paglesham. |
