The earliest known ancestor is William ROUSE of Bicester, probably born around 1680. One of his sons, Jonathon, became a butcher at Kidlington

Jonathon married a widow Susannah STRINGER at Hampton Poyle in 1747, and one of their daughters, Susannah, had an illegitimate daughter Martha baptised at nearby Shipton-on-Cherwell in 1784.

Susannah married Robert KING, a blacksmith of Bletchingdon, two years later, and Martha was brought up as Martha KING in Bletchingdon

Martha married Stephen SOANES at Forest Hill in 1814
