Three OSBORNE families lived at Terling from 1684 to 1759 and probably formed a direct line of descent. But they had few children and both children and parents frequently died young.

An exception was Elizabeth OSBORN, born in Terling in 1720, daughter of Thomas. She married Richard DUDLEY, a blacksmith, in 1748 and bore three children. He died young but Elizabeth lived to the age of 75.
