McLEAN is a common family name in parts of Perthshire, and John is a common forename. So it is not yet known which of the many John McLEANs baptised around 1760 is the John McLEAN who became a ploughman at Gorthy farm in the parish of Fowlis Wester.
John was not baptised at Fowlis but he married Ann BAYNE and baptised his own children there.
One of these was Helen McLEAN, baptised 1799, who married David JUSTICE, a textile printer, in the nearby parish of Tibbermore in 1821. She moved with her husband to Glasgow and died there in 1872.
