At least three generations of the Masters family became nursery gardeners producing a vast array of plants seeds and trees for sale from various plots around Chiswick on the bank of the Thames

George Masters, born around 1640, was probably son of an earlier George and lived in a house near the present Kew Bridge, where at least seven children were born, including another George who carried on the business

One daughter named Mary married a farmer from Essex, though how this came about is unknown. They baptised seven children in the little village of Great Bentley where Mary was buried in 1729
