King Genealogy

The earliest known ancestor, Thomas KING was a blacksmith in the Oxfordshire village of Wendlebury. His gt.grandson, Robert, was also a blacksmith, so it is probable that the two generations in between carried on the same trade.

Thomas’ son, Robert, moved to Bletchingdon, 3 miles from Wendlebury, and the family stayed there for three more generations.

Robert’s grandson, another Robert, became the blacksmith at Bletchingdon. He fathered a child, Martha, by Susannah ROUSE in 1784, and married her two years later.

Martha took the name KING and married firstly a tailor who died of fever, and then a mason Stephen SOANES of Forest Hill
