BAIN (BAYNE) is a common surname in Perthshire, but this summary concerns three generations of the family in the parish of Fowlis Wester.

Patrick BAIN, probably born about 1700 married Isabel BUCHAN at Fowlis in 1723 and baptised five children there, including twins.  He lived at a nearby farm called Carsehead.

One of his sons was named Peter or Patrick, and he married Anna HALLEY in 1748.  They lived at another nearby farm called Fornought.

Their daughter Anna married a ploughman, John McLEAN, at Fowlis in 1788 and lived at a third farm called Gorthy.

All these farms exist today.
